Heart Sacrifice
RitualsAztecs interpreted the meaning of life to be; appeasing their deities. As the gods and goddesses blessed them with the incredible gift of life it was only natural that they felt obliged to give back. They wanted to provide gifts that the gods and goddesses yearned for, the best gifts they could give them. Of course life was the answer, after all it was the greatest gift the deities gave to them. Animal and human sacrifice was an enormously important concept of Aztec religion. Rituals such as heart sacrifice, were believed to grace the people with the presence of powerful deities. This would then result in advantages including good harvest for farmers. As farming was a widely common occupation this was of great significance and importance to the Aztecs.
Priests weren't interested in just sacrificing anyone to the gods, no they were after 'commandment' like qualities. Such as; purity, honesty, trust, strength, warriors, genuineness, and many more great, desirable qualities. Be performing such rituals the Aztecs strongly believed they were fulfilling what they supposedly though was the purpose in life; worshiping and satisfying the deities who'd given them life. |
