Principal BeliefsThe Ancient Aztec religion consisted of an abundance of beliefs. had many beliefs. They believed that;
:-The sun (deity) fought against the darkness every night and rose in order to save mankind. -The Earth was completely flat. -That if the sun was continually fed blood (sacrifices), it would rise. -In the afterlife. This was a significantly strong belief as they yearned to be in the presence of the sun god when they died and most certainly not in the underworld. - That there are thirteen heavens and nine hells. -If they pleased their deities, they would end up where they desired to be, with the sun god. - Their purpose to fulfill in life was to worship the gods and goddesses in order to display their gratitude towards the deities [as they gave them life]. - They had to create beautiful temples in order to satisfy and bring peace to their various deities. - Ceremonial temples [called Teocalli] were essential for thee numerous processes when it came to worshiping. Teocallis included pools created for ceremonial cleansing, along with places for the temple priests to live, gardens and storage areas to hold skulls. |
