The majority of society commonly associate the ancient religion 'Aztec' with human sacrificial rituals. Consequently the other aspects of this society and culture can become overlooked. This website contains information relating to their principal beliefs, influence in the society, rituals, origins of the universe and much more.
The tribe of 'Mexica' which is generally referred to as Tenocha is where the Aztecs originated from. Hence the original name of this ancient religion was in fact 'Mexica'. Tenocha also dominated the Valley if Mexico. Hence Mexico city and the Republic of Mexico derive their names from 'Mexica'. The photo above is a wall of skulls which the Aztecs called 'Tzompantli'. The typical purpose of a Tzompantli is to publicly display the skulls of sacrificial victims mainly. It was also a a sign their deities of how many human had been sacrificed in order to give back to the gods and goddesses. The significant reasoning behind live, human sacrifice was to worship their deities and fulfill what the believed to be their duty in life. The greatest gift the gods and goddesses gave them was definitely life itself. The Aztecs always gave the gods and goddesses the best gift; life. anyone possessing desirable qualities including; strength, purity, honesty, chastity and so on.
